The Montebello and East L.A. Family Support Center is a project of the Golden Rule Community Development Corporation. Golden Rule CDC is a corporation offering family support and education services, administrating an affordable housing trust fund and advocating the development of affordable housing. Working in collaboration, both Golden Rule CDC and the Family Support Center are run out of the Montebello United Methodist Church, which has been housed in the same facility since 1928. In the beginning the Family Support Center started offering innovative classes for parents of out of control teens. Being successful in this experimental endeavor, the Family Support Center grew. Today we offer a plethora of programs and activities for at risk youth and their families including (but are certainly not limited to): An After School Program, Youth Group, Youth Basketball Night, Youth Council for directing future programs, and a Youth Volunteer program. Our goal is to strengthen family unity and build developmental assets in youth so that they grow resiliency and learn to make positive choices.
